In real estate transactions, it is not uncommon that the Seller or the Buyer are not in town/country when the transactions actually closes. Many clients are moving to the city and unable to travel to Ottawa for signing or, even if they live in Ottawa, they may be away for business or pleasure. If this is your case, please notify our office as soon as possible and we will have you sign a general Power of Attorney form that will enable Jacques Robert or any other person that you may designate to sign on your behalf. This form will entitle the person you designate to have complete powers over your affairs. You may limit this power to the sale and/or purchase of your home only, if you wish (please inquire with our office).
For your convenience we have included this general form online. As this form requires a signature, it cannot be sent electronically, therefore; please read the following instructions carefully:
- Print the blank form in English. Print in French.
- Fill in all of the areas appropriately. N.B. The person receiving the power of Attorney does not need to sign anywhere.
- It must be witnessed by two individuals, one of the individuals must be a Notary, Lawyer or Commissioner of Oaths (neither of whom are receiving the Power of Attorney)
- The Notary, Lawyer or Commissioner of Oaths must collect two pieces of ID from you (one must be either a driver's licence or a passport). We will require clear copies of both ID's with the original Signed Power of Attorney before we can close the real estate transaction. Send the original Power of Attorney to our office by courier or mail depending on the time frame involved.
- We will also require that you fax it to our office at 613-837-7664 or email it to mail@jacquesrobert.com immediately to commence the file.
- Contact us by phone to ensure that we are aware that you are issuing a Power of Attorney for use in your file.
